UNACEM aims to be Carbon Neutral towards 2050

  • It is a commitment that is a part of its Sustainability Strategy 2021 – 2050 that includes five pillars that bring support to its strategic management.
  • UNACEM has aligned with the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) and the CO2 Route Map that promotes the Inter-American Cement Federation.

Lima, 2021. UNACEM is committed to the climate aspiration established by the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) towards 2050. This aspiration consists in offering society a more sustainable future reducing the CO2 footprint generated by the operations and products used in the cement and concrete industry, until carbon neutral is reached.

During the last 20 years UNACEM has been promoting and launching different initiatives focused on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, which are aligned with the Peruvian commitment to reach in 2030 a reduction of these gases in 40% in relation to the base year 2010. At the same time, it participates together with the Inter-American Cement Federation in making the “Peruvian Cement Road Map” towards an economy low in carbon.

UNACEM has registered its greenhouse gas emissions in the “Huella de Carbono Perú” (“Carbon Footprint Peru”) platform, official tool for the Ministry of Environment so that private and public organizations can manage their greenhouse gas emissions; and it is the first Peruvian cement company to obtain the first level of recognition on this tool and also to commit to become carbon neutral towards 2050.

The strategic management of the Company has a sustainability approach and it is based on five pillars: corporate governance, environment and biodiversity, climate change, circular economy and social development.
